The Paint is Dry

One of the main goals of this blog is to share my experiences from my 8th grade science classroom. It’s helpful to get to know a little bit about where I work.

This year I moved back to the district that I grew up in. I’m forever grateful to Waller ISD for allowing me to grow as an educator and for supporting me throughout the last four years. It was time for something new, and the right opportunity came along.

The school I am at now is a brand new middle school this year. When I say brand new, I mean the paint is still drying on the walls new. It’s been a fun summer watching it all come together, and our staff has really bonded throughout the experience.

I’m fortunate enough to work with a science team that is totally amazing. I really don’t think I could have picked a better team, even if I had done the interviews myself. My next door partner and I are brothers from another mother, and we play well off of each other. It’s just an ideal situation all-around.

Today was the first day of school, and I’m reminded about how each of us as educators get a ‘do-over’ every single year. There are very few careers that have the same luxury. We are able to keep the good stuff and re-create the stuff that wasn’t as good. It’s a very satisfying feeling to know that each year gets better and better. However, I must admit that I look back on my first year and shiver in horror at some of the things that we did in class.

I hope everyone has a great start to the new year!
